Senior Vice President Content Marketing Director
Content may be one of the most-emotionally charged words in marketing as advertisers grapple with new approaches to inform and entertain. However, Juan Davila has found a solution to many content issues—and it’s working brilliantly.
With over 19 years’ experience in Marketing Communications and Content Marketing ranging from film, telecommunications, advertising to packaged-goods and television industries, it’s no surprise that Juan has a strong legacy with Multinational Companies that do business in Latin America and North America.
Bilingual in Spanish and English, the native Ecuadorian heads Content Marketing for LiquidThread, the fastest growing branded entertainment division of Starcom MediaVest Group. He is responsible for expanding the content business throughout Latin America and U.S. Multicultural markets. With a roster of global brands, Juan and his team develop content solutions for Samsung, Coca-Cola, Burger King, Procter & Gamble, Post, and Mondelez, among others.
Most recently, he was charged with adapting a new product technology that converted regular digital advertising banners into interactive, rich media with a story platform for internet users. This proprietary product allowed content to be created in real time to respond to trending social conversations and events. Juan saw the opportunity to develop a “News Bureau” for LiquidThread’s clients, where social listeners and brand editors were plugged-in to the cultural zeitgeist and inserted brands into relevant and entertaining content-messages.
He created the LiquidThread News Bureau headquartered in Miami which scales across 13 countries, including Brazil, in two languages (Spanish & Portuguese), along with satellite news desks in Argentina and Mexico to service regional and local clients.
The launch of the LiquidThread News Bureau kicked-off World Cup initiatives for Samsung and Coca-Cola which entailed a series of multi-media banners containing Twitter amplifications, real time news, as well as brand asset content from Coca-Cola.fm and Coca-Coca.tv. Juan’s commitment to innovation set the standard for other Starcom MediaVest Group agencies to follow in activating agile content campaigns.
Prior to his roles at LiquidThread and Starcom, Juan was Director of Creative Development at MGM Studios for Ventanazul, Salma Hayek’s film banner. He identified and developed Hispanic-themed movies for universal audiences that leveraged cultural relevance with commercial success. His deep Hispanic cultural knowledge (historic and contemporary) of Latin America and U.S. Hispanic landscape, positioned Juan as a go-to executive for Hollywood literary and talent agencies looking to build Hispanic themed projects that had commercial appeal. In 2009, Juan sold and developed a script to MTV Films and was represented by what is now William Morris Endeavor.
From 2004 – 2008, Juan owned and operated Davila LLC, a literary and talent management firm that transitioned Hispanic writers and actors into the mainstream. The company had offices in Los Angeles and New York with a client roster of actors and writers who worked in television such as ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and Showtime—among others, and independent films.
Juan’s history includes executive roles in marketing and brand communications areas at A&E Television Networks (4 years), Nabisco (3 years), Young & Rubicam (2 years), and AT&T (2 years). He started his career at Cinevista Films, marketing the films of Oscar-winning Spanish director, Pedro Almodóvar, as well as Jim Jarmusch, Wim Wenders, Carlos Saura and other cutting edge independent filmmakers.
A Columbia University graduate, Juan also studied at the Sorbonne IV in Paris and Salamanca University in Spain. After he left Ecuador, Juan Davila lived and worked in New York, Los Angeles and Miami –where he resides now.
